Burgundy and Chardonnay in one of the best French wine regions
In the east of France, Burgundy is one of the best French wine regions due to its continental climate and ideal grape-growing terrain. It is also the ideal place for those who want to explore wine while enjoying a breathtaking countryside landscape. They have vineyards classified as World Heritage by UNESCO and charming villages that will make you fall in love with the history of the region.
In Burgundy in particular, they are dedicated to the cultivation of the delicate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. Their Pinot Noir reds are famous for their elegance and structure, as well as the Chablis whites, with a characteristic light acidity.
We recommend a visit to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, one of the most prestigious wineries in the world.
Bordeaux, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in one of the best French wine regions
Famous for its prestigious blended red wines, in the southwest of France lies one of the best French wine regions par excellence, Bordeaux. Its coastal climate favors the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. In addition, there are chateaux (French wineries) here where you can taste all the wine varieties that they have in the region, such as Chateau Pontet-Canet. Ready to taste a fruity wine? Or perhaps a red?
And if you love cycling, you will love it, as it is ideal for crossing castles and vineyards on its routes!
Champagne, Chardonnay or Pinot Meunier in one of the best French wine regions
Did someone say champagne? Yes! In the north of the country, Champagne is one of the best French wine regions known for its iconic sparkling wine. Its cool climate and soils favour the production of an acidic and elegant champagne, and several types of grapes, such as Chardonnay or Pinot Meunier, are combined to produce a bubbly and fresh wine.
In this area you can drink an authentic Dom Perignon while visiting the underground cellars. Also, you’ve probably heard of Moët & Chandon, right? Well, you’ll have the opportunity to visit their Maison in Épernay, which also has underground cellars and a tasting of their most famous champagnes.
Alsace and its Riesling grape
On the border with Germany, Alsace is considered one of the best French wine regions for its aromatic white wines. It is a fairy-tale region with medieval villages, colourful houses and cobbled streets.
The vineyards, located on steep slopes between the Vosges mountains, are within a dry microclimate ideal for growing the Riesling grape, from which the wine of the same name is later made.
We can’t think of a more perfect plan than a walk through a picturesque village and ending up tasting its gastronomy and a glass of its incredible white wine!
Loire Valley, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc in one of the best French wine regions
Located in north-central France, the Loire Valley is as famous for its castles as it is for its incredible vineyards. The cool and humid climate allows for a great diversity in the cultivation of different types of grapes, from crisp whites like Sauvignon Blanc to sparkling wines like Chenin Blanc.
Known as the Garden of France, the Loire Valley offers idyllic landscapes and breathtaking Renaissance castles. For example, at Chenonceau, one of the most famous castles in the region, you can observe the beauty and majesty of the castle while enjoying a magnificent wine tasting.
Provence and the famous Whispering Angel
Sun and wine? Provence! With a Mediterranean climate, this French region is ideal for relaxing on vacation while doing some wine tourism. Famous for its Cotes de Provence rosé wines, they are ideal to accompany the flavours of Mediterranean cuisine.
Lavender fields, olive groves and vineyards with sea views are what await you if you decide to escape to enjoy this ideal destination. And, what’s more, any time is a good time! Since its warm climate makes it ideal for visits throughout the year.
The famous Whispering Angel was also born in this region, and you can taste it at the Chateau d’Esclans, in the heart of Provence.
Cotes du Rhone, to taste the iconic Hermitage in one of the best French wine regions
The Rhône Valley is one of the best French wine regions dedicated to red wine. The river that gives its name to the valley has a long journey passing through Lake Geneva and the south of France to the Gulf of Lion. Given this route, its soils are so varied that they are divided into the north, with the Hermitage wine and its intense and spicy flavours, and the south, with the Châteauneuf-du-Pape and its complexity and hardness when tasting.
Our recommendation is that you visit Maison Chapoutier, one of the most prestigious wineries in the region where you can taste iconic wines such as Hermitage. In addition, the Chateaux offers tastings with gastronomy and bicycle tours through the vineyard to learn more about viticulture.
Languedoc-Roussillon: Grenache, Syrah or Picpoul
This region is one of the largest and most diverse, and its Mediterranean climate is ideal for the cultivation of a wide variety of grapes. At first it was known for the mass production of wine, but in recent decades an awareness of quality wine has emerged. It specializes in varieties such as Grenache, Syrah or Picpoul.
In this region we want to highlight Mas de Daumas Gassac, known as “the Grand Cru of the Languedoc”, producing exceptional wines since the 70s, and highlighting the winery for its organic approach and production of complex wines. They blend Cabernet Sauvignon, which is an international variety, with native ones, and they do wine tastings and tours of the winery to enjoy as a couple and spend quality time.
Beaujolais: Gamay and Morgon
In the south of Burgundy, the Gamay grape is grown in this region on granite soils on the hills. Its wines are known for being light, fruity and easy to drink. More serious wines such as Morgon are also produced.
In addition, the region’s semi-continental climate will contribute to making your wine tourism getaway perfect. In this area we can find some of the most beautiful castles and wineries in all of France, such as the Chateau de Pizay, which offers a complete experience: visit to the castle, visit to the wineries, accommodation, tastings…
Corsica and the Domaine Comte Abbatucci in one of the best French wine regions
The so-called “Island of Beauty” is a wine paradise in the Mediterranean Sea. Fresh and aromatic wines are produced in this region, and its climate is ideal for beach holidays and gastronomic tourism.
The Heritage appellation, with the production of rosés and reds, perfectly captures the sunny and warm spirit of Corsica. In addition, its fantastic beaches will make you never want to leave.
